Being Green
24 x 30"
Acrylic on Canvas
I did this piece back in late April, early May. At first I just thought it was a pretty piece. Then I saw the elements I incorporated and how they relate to this current disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The greens are similar to the greens in the BP logo, it's a big flower, there's elements of water and/or sea and the black is certainly reminescent of oil. I liked this painting at first but now it just speaks of a horrible chapter in our lives.

I made an 8 x 10" of this same subject in blues. It was called Walk Away and I sold it back when I did it in 2007/08. But I liked the idea of the subject. I'm always looking at legs, mens' legs, womens' legs, I just think they're a wonder of art and structure. So, I've been wanting to do a larger version of Walk Away for a while now and since I've moved back to Corpus Christi, TX I've found the perfect opportunity to make the piece. I'm involved in an art group and we take part in a downtown-wide show called ArtWalk! Et voila! I made the piece for this show which takes place on June 24th!

I am passionate about the freedom of art. That doesn't mean that I am in love with every genre out there but I can respect and appreciate the work and the technique it takes to make a piece. I may not want it in my living room but that's OK. Not everyone wants the same piece. Not everyone collects all across the board. Everyone has their own flavor and God bless them for that. Diversity is an awesome thing!
Much of my work is inspired by color, emotion and subject....although the latter is a very rare instance. I rarely do representational work. Most of my work is moody, abstract but somehow hopeful. At least I hope that is what the viewer takes away with them when they see my work. Vist Laurette's online portfolio.
