HADLAKAT HANEROT....THE LIGHTING OF THE SABBATH CANDLES
This painting is one of my debut series of expressions of Hebrew Prayers. I have finally married my passion for abstract expressionist painting and my love of Judaism.
This particular painting juxtaposes the work week and the holy day of the sabbath. The three orbs signify the three commandments specific to women in the religion, one being the lighting of the candles to herald the arrival of the holy day. The floating orb above is the feminine aspect of God, always above us.
DRAMA
This painting is the first of a short series I painted during a very turbulent time in my family's life. I have always said that painting has saved me thousands of dollars in therapy bills. As an abstract expressionist, I am painting emotions out of me when I approach the canvas..no preplanning in compositional design or paint palette. At the end of this process, the product yielded interlocking shapes and colors that work together in a complex design. I have had tremendous response to this piece...which always validates that the expression is finding it's way out of me right into the viewer's mind.
