Yuri Yanin
A former KGB intelligence service operative, I retired in 90th and never returned to the practical work in that field again. As my previous work left me little time for my hobbies, I decided to do only what is really interesting personally for me for the rest of my life.
I like traveling, fishing, hunting. I like guns and have some knowledge about such devices. So, I founded an industrial corporation, producing firearms, ammo and equipment and worked as its general manager. I was also the commodore and director of the Central Yacht club - the biggest in Russia, and used to make long voyages myself sometimes. Then I got tired with the bureaucratic matters in my work and decided to concentrate my efforts in the most interesting field. After that I worked as a free gun designer or a leader of a small, informal Yanin Gun Design Group. I still work over several projects of that kind.
Simultaneously I made some job as a firearm journalist and editor. I was one of the founders of several Russian magazines, devoted to such themes. I am still an editorial board's member of a solid scientific journal "Life, safety & security", which has deserved several prestigious international awards. I also wrote some fiction novels and lately started to illustrate all my writings by myself.
My father was a very talented photographer - artist, and I inherited some interest to fine art and photography from him. In my youth I studied drawing and painting. Now I am also much fascinated by the rapid development of photography, computer and digital technics, and I think that this progress can give to an artist some new tools, which are even more powerful and effective than old pencils and brushes. So, photography, computer and digital art became one of my "old-new" hobbies too. As I always try to be serious and professional in my hobbies, I studied computer art where I could, and made several personal exhibitions of my art in the places, where I worked, I also participated in other exhibitions and art galleries.
My efforts in the field of fine art lie in a wide range: from painting and drawing to photography and digital art; from realism to abstraction. I am also fascinated by the possibility to make new artistic images on the base of old photo's. When I do that, I feel as if I bring former life into our time. So this kind of artistic job also has become a substantial line in my art.
In my art I always try to express frankly my true emotions, fillings, thoughts, and to share them sincerely with other people. That's why it is so important for me to feel public's reaction to my art.
