Landscapes in Oil: Louise Gibler

Louise Gibler
I was born in New Jersey and began painting in 1975 along with my husband, Richard. We studied on our own as well as at the Art Students League New York. After my husband's death, I relocated to Canada to be near family which expanded my mind and interest in Canadian art. Since 2006 I have lived in California and am greatly impressed with its rare beauty and have changed my palette from the blues and grays of the northeast to the oranges and blues I see in California.
I am mostly inspired by beauty of light against dark which I believe creates a mood and some drama. My passion for art definitely came before the pain. I really believe something I learned a long time ago- it is not important to learn how to paint, but what to paint is by far more important to me.
