During my high school years I also attended art classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. Graduated from Illinois State University with a dual degree in Art and Education.
Instead of teaching I worked for Playbill Magazine as assistant to the publisher and
enrolled in ceramic classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. Left Playbill to teach high school art at Riverside Brookfield High School, Brookfield, Illinois.
Teachers have the summer off and I headed off for Gatlinburg, Tenn. and attended
pottery classes at Arrowmount, an art and crafts school which is an extension of the University of Tennessee located at the foothill of the Smokey Mountains.
At Arrowmount I met the now world famous Charles Counts (he studied with Marguerite Wildenhain of Bauhaus fame) and spent many summers at his studio in Rising Fawn, Georgia, studying pottery and design. While at Rising Fawn spent the summer with Michael Cardew an English pottery who revived the art and crafts movement in England along with Bernard Leach.
Also attended classes at Penland School of Crafts. Penland is a national center for education dedicated to helping people live creative lives. The mission of Penland School of Crafts is to support individual and artistic growth through craft. Took classes with Jane Peiser.
After Penland and while at the Art Institute met John Glick and spent one summer
studying pottery with him at a farm in northern California where he taught. Since 1964 he has been a professional studio artist working in clay. Nationally recognized as one of the leading influences in clay today.
While living in Chicago and spent one summer visiting museums on east coast which featured early historic American furniture and folk art. Museums included Wintertheur, Williamsburg, Yale, Historic Deerfield etc.
Spent three months in Guadalahara, Chapala and Tonala ,Mexico studying their folk art tradition with a trip to San Miguel de Allende a center for arts and crafts in Mexico
Studied and collected the art of Juan Quesada and the pottery from village of Mata Ortiz. . Juan Quezada was awarded the National Art Award by the Mexican government in 1999
While living in California attended classes and graduated with a degree from UCI with a paralegal degree and almost finished a graphic degree from UCLA. Sold a moving and storage business which I inherited through a divorce and went back to my love for the arts and my creative side.
Went back to my roots of painting and drawing with an emphasis on digital art. Attended UCLA and entered their graphic design program and my art now reflects
my interest in design along with the use of pen and ink and acrylics.
Represented for three years by Applejack Art Partners, which deal with décor art for homes and business. Work has also been represented by Steffanino’s, Costa Mesa, Ca. an interior design firm and prints can be purchased through Fairfield Publishers,
Brooklyn, New York.
My interest in digital art led me to design a collection of T shirts images which are
currently for sale on my website.
