Photo Realism to Abstract: Cory Calantropio

Big Brothers Hug is a portrait of a real life brother and sister, my niece and nephew. The original was made as a gift for the parents, and prints were given to each set of grandparents. The sincere adorable emotion displayed by the children in this piece is something all can enjoy.
Arturo & Katarina is a painting inspired by a legend that was spoken of in the movie Overboard with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. As the legend goes, Arturo, a Portuguese fisherman fell in love with beautiful Katarina. Her father, the territorial governor, would not allow his daughter to see this lowly fisherman. He told Arturo he had to ship off. Arturo did so but not before he told Katarina that he'd come back for her. The plan was that he would blast the ships horn three times upon entering the bay giving Katarina the signal to dive off the rocks and swim to the boat and they would go off together. A year later everything went as planed, but when she was swimming to the boat she got lost in the fog. Arturo panicked. He called out , Katarina!, Katarina! She called back,, Arturo! With that Arturo dove off the boat into the icy water. Sadly, they both drowned. The legend is that they reunited at the bottom of the sea. When you see the foam crashing on the rocks and spray come up that is evidence of them making love...forever and ever.
Cory Calantropio
I'm a mostly self-taught artist, currently residing in Humboldt County, CA. My works are mostly done in watercolor but vary in styles from photo-realism to abstract. Some of my sea life themed works are influenced by having spent 5 years living in the San Juan Islands, WA. Due to repeated bouts of depression and 'blocks' throughout my life, I have not had a prolific, nor successful art career, but I envision that all changing in the years to come.
I use Fine Art America as the means to offer prints of my work. If you'd like to see a nice representation of my art, I invite you to look at this video.
You can see Cory's portfolio on her FAA website.
