Speaking to the Spirit: Joyce Jackson
May 15th 2010 15:35
This picture grew from an image I mentally received after gazing into the pendant of an amazing woman who I met several years ago at her art display. Several of some of my best mystical experiences ever grew from the meetings with her for about 3 successive years. During the course of one visit, her neck pendant seemed to be emitting something which grabbed my attention. When I asked her what the pendant was, she said it was a Fire Crystal..
More from A Course in Miracles, text, page 137.5:
When a mind has only light, it knows only light. Its own radiance shines all around it, and extends out into the darkness of other minds, transforming them into majesty.
Joyce Jackson
When I attended school, I decided that art wasn’t a practical pursuit for earning income, so I studied and received college degrees in French and library science. But art has always been my first love. My most loved source of inspiration for painting comes from the spiritual dimension. I derive a great deal of pleasure in capturing visual imagery I mentally receive and commit to canvas using acrylic paint and other media. The visualizations are most intense when I actively meditate, but they come to me whether or not I do so. For instance, I might see bits and pieces of a work in my mind’s eye while laying in bed trying to sleep, upon awakening, or while watching TV. One of the more dangerous times is while driving, which I obviously have found it necessary to curtail. At times, the paintings come to mind full blown without needing to add or subtract much before committing the work to canvas or paper. Otherwise, they just usually somehow emerge as I place brush to canvas with daubs of paint. often as I listen to soft and gentle background music. These works are most closely categorized in the visionary genre of artworks. I also create humorous artwork and clay sculpture when I need a mini-vacation away from the more intense visionary work. I have been a clay artist for over 30 years. The physical demands grew to be a difficulty and I stepped back from it in order to try to increase my income by selling used books. As the income from this has become increasingly difficult to obtain, I’ve begun to return to painting out of love, not as a direct goal of making money. But of course, money for what I love most to do would certainly be the best of all possible worlds.

Thanks for commenting. I'm not familiar with Orble yet so please bear with me. In answer to your question, this piece was done mainly in acrylic, no oil. Later on, I added linear highlights with metallic pen &ink.
