Sweet and Wild: Watercolors by Lil Taylor

Sweet and Wild in Turquoise and Pink was a bit of a surprise to me. This original and signed watercolor began as a painting of a wildflower which was actually white with faint purple veins running through it. The background was dark and mottled so the white stood out against it. Simple, right? Well, I began painting it and started with the dark background.......TWICE. Neither time did I like where the painting was headed so I sat down and thought about colors I would love to see since Spring was here and everything was bright and blooming. That was where I began and where turquoise came from, I don't know. I seldom use it as a main color and rarely in my paintings because I lean towards the bold contrasts but then I figured I'd just get as much color out of it as was humanely possible with watercolors and make a splash with the colors.
I laid down the turquoise behind my drawing of the flowers and leaves and then it was just too plain so I think I just was taken over by Terry Madden because I stood up over the painting, starting spritzing it with water and then did all of these free-flowing leaves and accents in the background, adding other leaves to blend in behind the main painting. After this, I could hardly paint a white flower so it became blue and pink with lots of color and lots of details. The stamens and pollen had been masked and I dropped in some yellow greens and naple yellows for pop plus a tiny bit of lemon yellow.
The end result just happened. It was nothing like what I had planned but I love the result and find it just beautiful.
This was painted on heavy Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper and the unframed dimensions are 16 (h) x 12 (w). It may be purchased framed or unframed but the price as framed is $175.
